The Kamani nut (from the Calophyllum inophyllum tree) is a significant native Hawaiian plant. Brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers, Kamani is valued for its strong wood used in canoes and bowls. The Kamani nut is cold-pressed for medicinal oil (tamanu oil) & used for skin ailments. Kamani trees are often found near sacred sites & are also considered sacred. The nut kernel is also the key to the Hawaiian condiment inamona (for poke).
